Police shoot hoodlum

JAKARTA (JP): A notorious hoodlum believed to have been involved in a series of robberies has been shot dead in Tambora area, West Jakarta.

The Tambora police subprecinct confirmed the shooting of Jaja bin Raba on Monday night, saying that the hoodlum resisted arrest and ignored warning shots. He was shot in the leg, stomach and chest.

"We had been watching him for a week," a police officer told The Jakarta Post yesterday.

The police said that Jaja, 31, often threatened residents in the area.

His latest crime was allegedly committed on April 1 when he reportedly robbed a girl of a gold necklace on a Metro Mini bus.

Jaja was a resident of Jl. Kampung Duri, Tambora, West Jakarta. (04)
