Police sends UPC case file
JAKARTA: City police have sent the case file on March 28's attack on the Urban Poor Consortium (UPC) by the Betawi Brotherhood Forum (FBR) to the Central Jakarta Prosecutor's Office, Jakarta Police general crimes detectives' chief Adj. Sr. Com. Raja Erizman said on Friday.
We are still awaiting new evidence that would complete the dossier," he said when asked about the possibility that the prosecutors' might return the case file to the police.
Members of the FBR attacked the chairwoman of the UPC, Wardah Hafidz, and dozens of other people on March 28 at the offices of the National Commission on Human Rights as they staged a rally to protest against the violation of a court order prohibiting the forced eviction of poor people.
Wardah then filed a lawsuit against the FBR and its chairman A. Fadloli El Muhir, a member of the Supreme Advisory Council (DPA), and also the chairman of the city chapter of the Indonesian Democratic Party.
Police have sent a letter requesting President Megawati Soekarnoputri's approval to summon Fadloli for questioning over the attack.
"Thus far, we haven't yet got the President's leave," Erizman said.
Wardah was aware of the problem confronting the police in this regard, he added.
Wardah came to City Police headquarters on Friday and asked them to soon summon Fadloli. "The police should also investigate who was the mastermind who funded and organized the March 28 attack," she said. -- JP
