Police seize marijuana

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Belawan Port Police seized 36 kilograms of marijuana on Monday.

The chief of the port police, Lt. Col. Saut Usman Nasution, confirmed the seizure, saying the marijuana was confiscated from the ship KM Samiang. "But we cannot get the owners," he added.

Port police also confiscated 48 kilograms of marijuana on Saturday and arrested a suspect in the case.

Port police chief of detectives First Lt. Sinuhaji said the suspect, identified as Aceh Besar resident Yul bin Ma, transported the marijuana aboard the KM Samiang.

"He said he was offered Rp 2 million to deliver the marijuana. He already received Rp 200,000 as a down payment for his services," Sinuhaji said, quoting the suspect.

The suspect said a man was to meet him at the port and take him to the owner of the marijuana in Medan. (39/sur)
