Police recover 50% of stolen funds

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Police here said on Friday they had recovered more than 50 percent of at least Rp 33 billion (US$3.6 million) stolen from the Medan branch of Danamon Bank.

North Sumatra Police chief of detectives Sr. Comr. Satria Hari Prasetya said his office recently seized a total of Rp 17.2 billion from suspects in the bank scandal, including Rp 6 billion in cash.

The police had also confiscated a luxury house and a plot of land in Medan, belonging to a suspect named only by his initials as ES, the wife of prime suspect US who was the head teller of the bank.

Other suspects charged in the graft scam were AN, RID, HT, WAH, MHH and MIR. --JP
