Police receives bomb threat

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Police Headquarters received a bomb threat on Friday, prompting police to evacuate visitors from the city's vehicle registration office to allow the Gegana bomb squad to conduct a search.

A duty officer at the police administration office, Brig. Aji Pranoto, received the threat by telephone at 2:15 p.m, and quickly asked visitors to evacuate the office located on the fourth floor, said Jakarta police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam.

Eight members of the Gegana bomb squad immediately searched the area for any suspicions objects, while visitors gathered outside the building.

The fourth floor houses the administration office for the city's vehicle registrations.

According to Anton, this was the first time the police headquarters had received a bomb threat.--JP
