Police pursue vicious robbers

BOGOR (JP): Police are looking for men believed to have killed Edwin Saputra, 28, a resident of Gading Elok housing complex in Serpong, Tangerang, Bogor Police chief Lt. Col. Ferial Manaf said on Monday.

Ferial said the robbers carjacked Edwin's Isuzu Panther van after assaulting him and his girlfriend Yani Indri, 25, and later dumped them at a roadside in Gunung Sindur on Sunday night.

Edwin was found dead by local residents, while Yani suffered injuries to her neck and right leg. As of Monday, the van had not been found.

Ferial said Edwin and Yani were attacked by the robbers in Serpong shortly after they bought a bouquet of flowers to celebrate Christmas and the new year.

"The two were forced to get back into the car and were threatened with death if they shouted," he said.

He said one of the robbers forcefully snatched the Panther's ignition key from Edwin's pocket and sped off in the direction of Bogor.

"During the journey, the two victims were assaulted with sharp weapons," said Ferial.

The robbers later threw the victims into bushes along the roadside, he said.

"Edwin was believed to have died because of stab wounds to his head, neck and arm," said Ferial.

He said the robbers did not take their victims' money or other possessions.

"The victims' belongings, including wallet and purse, gold jewelry and wristwatches were left untouched," he said. (24/ivy)
