Police plan antiterrorism workshop

JAKARTA: National Police Headquarters is preparing a workshop on how to cope with terrorism and other transnational crimes.

National Police Chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar said on Tuesday the workshop would be held in October here and attended by representatives of ASEAN-member countries.

Preparations were now in progress involving the police and 43 state institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Directorate General of Immigration.

Da'i said the workshop was recommended during the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime in Kuala Lumpur recently. There were eight crimes which needed joint measures, with Indonesia focusing on terrorism.

Other crimes highlighted were drug trafficking, money laundering, arms smuggling, child and women trading, cyber crime, sea piracy and international economic crime. -- Antara
