Police officers to learn in Berlin

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia is to send 10 middle-ranking police officers on a detective and riot-control course held by the Germany police in Berlin later this year.

National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Da'i Bactiar said in a press release yesterday that the Indonesians' participation was part of the cooperation pact between the two countries' police forces agreed Friday during an honorary visit of German Minister of Home Affairs, Lt. Gen. (retired) Schoembohm on National Police Chief Gen. Dibyo Widodo.

Bachtiar gave no date of the course or its duration.

He said Indonesia sent about 100 police officers on similar courses in Germany from 1980 to 1994.

Overseas study programs for the Indonesian police also include traffic in the Netherlands, management in Britain, drugs in the United States and general police affairs in Australia. (cst)
