Police officers detained for murder

AMBON, Maluku: Three Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officers here are facing possible prosecution being drunk and accidentally killing another soldier on Monday.

Maluku Police chief Brig. Gen. Firman Gani said on Tuesday that the three are currently being detained by the Military Police and could face disciplinary charges.

"We promise to take stern action against the three if they are found guilty," Firman said without naming or revealing the ranks of the three policemen.

Monday's incident occurred when the three policemen got drunk and started to create a commotion on the street. Efforts by a Marine officer to calm them only sparked their ire as they began firing shots into the air. (49/lup)
