Police officers caught in drugfest
JAKARTA (JP): Seven low-ranking police officers were detained on Wednesday night for allegedly using shabu-shabu (a crystal methamphetamine) at the Petamburan Police Dormitory on Jl. K.S. Tubun in West Jakarta, an officer said.
"The seven men were apprehended while smoking the drug," head of the Palmerah Police Maj. Juk Ngaderan told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
He said the midnight raid was led by Jakarta Police chief Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman.
"I cannot tell you more. The case is being handled by the Jakarta Police," he said.
West Jakarta Police chief Lt. Col. Adjie Rustam Ramdja said: "West Jakarta Police officers do not live at the dorm. Those living there are National Police and Jakarta Police officers."
He declined to give more details.
City police spokesman Zainuri Lubis could not be reached for comment on the matter but a senior city police officer confirmed the arrests.
West Jakarta Police detectives arrested two men, one said to be a second lieutenant of the Army's Special Force (Kopassus), with a huge amount of drugs in their possession on Sunday.
Amid rumors that one of the men is the son of a high-ranking Army officer, the military has avoided commenting on the case. (ylt)
