Police kill drug suspect

JAKARTA (JP): A drug suspect lost his life early on Tuesday morning in Duren Sawit district, shot down by East Jakarta Police officers as he attempted to flee.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bahrul Alam identified the slain suspect as 25-year-old Anser Tambunan.

"Police seized 17 small packets of heroin from Anser. He was placed under arrest in Wika field on Jl. Nusa Indah in Malaka Jaya subdistrict. Then the suspect attempted to escape at about 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday," Anton said. "So, police fired warning shots and then shot him."

Anser died of gunshot wounds to the chest.

Anton said police arrested Anser following a tip from Sugeng Rianto, a suspected drug dealer who was arrested in Duren Sawit district at 9:30 p.m. on Monday night.

Police found 85 small packets of heroin in Sugeng's possession, the officer said.

"Sugeng led police to Anser," Anton said. (ylt)
