Police hunt Bogor drug dealers

BOGOR (JP): Bogor Police are searching for drug dealers operating in a number of local university campuses, following reports of an increase in drug abuse among students.

Bogor Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Sabar Rahardjo told Antara on Wednesday that he had sent plainclothes officers to a number of campuses to track down the drug dealers.

He said his men had recently arrested three drug users, together with a packet of dried marijuana and heroin.

They are Mahar, 23, a resident of Sempurkaler subdistrict, Bogor, Dismanyah, 21, from Bantarjati subdistrict, Bogor, and Iskandar Zulkarnaen, 31, from Cugenang, Cianjur, West Java.

Sabar said all those arrested claimed to be first-time drug users and bought the drugs using money from their parents.

According to data at Bogor Police office, the police have arrested at least 75 drug users and dealers, and seized a total of 50 kilograms of marijuana, three kilograms of heroin and shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine).

Many of those arrested were sent to Bogor Prosecutors' Office for their cases to be dealt with.

The head of the office, Riemenda S. Gintings, said 60 percent of drug cases in the regency involved students.
