Police get US$4.35 million from U.S.

JAKARTA: The United States provided the National Police with US$4.352 million on Wednesday to assist the police's transition from a military unit to a professional, civilian law enforcement agency.

The funds would be used to finance various projects including field training, police-labor relations training, fighting against people-trafficking and personnel transport vehicles.

The aid was handed over by the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Ralph L. Boyce to Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar during a ceremony held at the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta.

With the latest funding, the U.S. has now provided police with over $16 million in aid. --JP
