Police get 20 new motorbikes

JAKARTA (JP): City Police yesterday received a gift of 20 motorbikes from a company owned by President Soeharto's eldest daughter Siti Hardiyanti Rukmana.

The motorbikes, Yamaha RX Kings, worth around Rp 120 million (US$50,000), are to be mainly used by Pioneer Squad members.

At the handover ceremony, City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata called on police officers make greater efforts to prevent crime, and in particular homicide.

"We are waging a war against crime. I want each of you to catch one criminal a week," Hamami said.

Setya Novanto, director of PT Citra Permata Sakti Persada presented the motorbikes at City Police headquarters yesterday.

Hamami said such donations from private institutions illustrated public sympathy and solidarity with for police officers. (cst)
