Police doubt treasurer's story

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Police are doubting the story of a treasurer of a government office who reported that a bag containing the staff payroll was snatched by thieves.

Police became suspicious after the story of Mohammad Nur, treasurer of the Social Services Office, did not tally with the version given by his driver, the Antara news agency reported.

Mohammad said the bag was snatched from his car by two men on a motorcycle. He and the driver stopped on the roadside after the two men alerted them that they had a flat tire. When they got out of the car to check, the two men made off with the bag of money.

Police said however that the driver gave a completely different story and they now suspect that the whole thing was a scam. They said Nur had openly refused a bank security guard to escort back him to his office. (pwn)
