Police discover bullets in Poso

PALU, Central Sulawesi: Local police detectives have found a number of bullet shells near the center of sectarian clashes that hit the Central Sulawesi town of Poso two weeks ago.

Sources from Poso Police told Antara on Monday that the projectiles were identified as coming from 5.56 caliber bullets that were believed to have killed six people and injured more than 30 others during the violence.

They said such bullets were commonly used in M-16 or CIS rifles, which are not the standard weapons of the National Police.

Deputy chief of provincial police Col. Andi Zainal Abidin confirmed the findings and said the evidence had been kept by the police. He said the discovery comprised nine 5.56 caliber and three CIS bullet shells.
