Police detainee found dead

JAKARTA: A man identified as Paulus alias Asen was found dead in the bathroom of the Jakarta police detention center on Tuesday.

City police fraud squad unit Adj. Sr. Comr. Darma Pangrekun said Asen, who had been detained for 20 days for his role in a Rp 30 million (US$3,250) forgery case, was found hanging from a ceiling in the bathroom.

"We suspect that he was under stress because he had been detained. We are still looking for his family as he has no address in Jakarta," he said.

Darma said Asen's case file had earlier been submitted to the prosecutor's office.

Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital would carry out an autopsy to determine the cause of his death. --JP
