Police detain 11 Salemba inmates

JAKARTA: Police took into custody 11 inmates from the Salemba
detention center in Central Jakarta on Monday following a mass
brawl between inmates.

The brawl was incited by an incident on Sunday when inmates
from Block Q beat up an inmate from Block M, Margono who was
passing Block Q.

Inmates from Block M then attacked Block Q but guards at the
detention center were able to prevent further clashes, detik.com
reported.

However, another clash took place on Monday at about 3 p.m.
involving more inmates than Sunday's brawl.

This time, the guards sought help from the Central Jakarta
Police precinct as well as the Jakarta Police Headquarters.

Police officers arrested 11 inmates believed to be the
perpetrators of the brawl. They also found a machete under a
mattress when conducting a sweep after taking control of the
