Police destroy 8,000 pirated VCDs

DEPOK: Depok Police destroyed over 8,000 pirated VCDs and MP3s, and 25 gambling machines in front of the municipality office on Tuesday.

The police also bulldozed about 13,000 bottles of liquor seized from unlicensed shops.

Depok Police chief Sr. Comr. Raja Erizman said the illegal merchandise was confiscated in a series of raids in March and April.

"We are making an effort to uphold the regulations on shops, jamu (traditional herbal medicine) vendors and department stores in the city," he said.

He said the police had arrested 15 suspects for the distribution and sale of the illegal merchandise. -- JP
