Police destroy 1.1m pirated CDs

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Police destroyed on Thursday 1,102,987 pirated video compact discs (VCDs), audio compact discs (CDs) and digital video discs (DVDs) at headquarters. The discs were confiscated during routine raids from August to September 2003.

Among the bulldozed discs were those seized in raids in 2001.

Police records show that there were 111,860 pornographic VCDs, 123,000 movie DVDs, 1,806 audio CDs and 59,000 CDs of pirated MP3 audio programs.

"The destroyed discs were confiscated from 25 vendors, 10 distributors and five home industries," Special Crimes chief Sr. Comr. Edmon Ilyas said during the event. -- JP
