Police deployed to monitor forest

PONTIANAK, West Kalimantan: Provincial police here started a four-day forest ranger training program on Thursday to reinforce monitoring of illegal logging activities around the border area.

West Kalimantan Police chief Brig. Gen. Atok Rismanto was quoted by Antara as saying that at least 44 police, including 30 members of the elite Police Mobile Brigade, were participating in the course.

He said that after its completion, the police would be deployed to the border area between West Kalimantan and Serawak, Malaysia, to enhance law enforcement against illegal loggers in the area. (byg)
