Police continue train wreck probe

JAKARTA (JP): Bekasi police are still in the dark over the cause of last Friday's collision of three trains in Karang Asih village.

Three employees of state-owned company Perumka stationed at the nearby Cikarang post when the incident happened were still being questioned by police Thursday.

According to Bekasi Police Chief Lt. Col. Adjie Rustam Ramdja, investigators hope the three witnesses can help reveal the cause of the mishap in which one person was killed and nine others were injured.

"We're probing this case in cooperation with Perumka. We hope we can reveal the truth of what really caused the accident," Adjie said.

The collision occurred when a speeding freight train on the Jakarta-Bandung route hit a cattle train from Cikampek, which was changing tracks.

Soon after, a packed Mpu Jaya passenger train hit the derailed freight train. (edt)
