Police chief yet to dismiss 'candid cop'

JAKARTA: Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Makbul Padmanagara said on Friday he was considering the recommendation made by the Police Professional Ethics Board to dismiss First Insp. Sunarjo for his involvement in a candid camera show.

"I respect the board's recommendation to give early retirement to Sunarjo but I will consider his achievements during his career as a police officer and his superiors' recommendation he is a dedicated policeman," he said.

Sunarjo, 47, the head of a patrol unit at Kebon Jeruk Police station, was found to have played a key role in a candid camera show aired by RCTI, ordering his officers to perform for the program. Makbul said the show had tarnished the police's professional image.

In Tuesday's open trial, the board recommended Makbul give early retirement to Sunarjo, who would normally retire at age 55. -- JP
