Police chief found shot dead

SUBANG, West Java: First Lt. Kasdari, chief of Jalancagak city
police precinct in Subang regency, was found dead with a massive
head wound in his office on Saturday.

He was believed to have shot himself in the head, the Antara
news agency said, quoting police in Purwakarta.

He was found by one of his staff who had earlier thought the
chief was sleeping on his desk. The officer said he did not hear
a gunshot but said the sound may have been overwhelmed by the
buzzing of a lawn mower outside.

Kasdari's wife and children had recently abandoned him and
this may have been the reason for his taking his life, sources
