Police briefing room catches fire

JAKARTA: The National Police briefing room caught fire on Friday night due to a short circuit, but no damage was done, city police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam said.

He said that the room, which is usually used for meetings with the National Police chief, caught fire at about 8:30 p.m., but it lasted only for about 10 minutes, as officers on night duty quickly managed to put it out.

"It's only a small fire. Night duty officers quickly extinguished it. No documents were destroyed and no significant material loss resulted from the fire," he said, as quoted by Radio Elshinta on Friday night.

He said that the short circuit on the room's ceiling was due to water leakage from the roof. "This is the first time that the police headquarters has caught fire," he said.
