Police arrest Peruvian for drugs

DENPASAR: Bali Provincial Police's director of drugs and narcotics Chief Senior Commissioner Bambang Sugiharto said on Wednesday that the police had arrested Arevalo Stagnaro Alberto, a Peruvian, after doing surveillance on him for over a month as a suspected marijuana dealer and user.

Alberto, 32, was apprehended by five police officers on Monday with 206 grams of marijuana on his person.

The narcotics detectives claimed they had evidence that the marijuana, which can sold at Rp 3 million per gram on the street, was entering Bali from Australia.

"Usually, this variety of (marijuana) is known among tourists as 'Lemon Juice'. According to our information, this kind of marijuana in Kuta and Legian areas might be priced as high as Rp 3 million per gram," one of the detectives, Comr. Made Wijana explained. -- JP
