Police arrest four students for murder

JAKARTA (JP): South Jakarta Police detectives have arrested four senior high school students in the past two days over the killing of another student, Leo Henriyanto, 18, during a brawl on Saturday, a police officer said on Tuesday.

The officer, who refused to be named, identified the four as Agus Riyadi and Supriyatna, both students at STM Bhakti senior technical high school in East Jakarta, Ahmad Lutfi, alias Ciney, and Dominique, alias Dumay.

The high schools of the latter two students have not yet been identified, he said.

"One student, whom I will only identify as Dj, is still at large. We have confiscated a buckle-shaped belt and a large wooden object as evidence," the source said.

The victim, a student at STM 3 senior technical high school, was beaten with hard objects on different parts of his body, particularly his back and buttocks, he explained.

According to South Jakarta Police chief of detectives Maj. Ahmad Alwi, Leo had just disembarked from a S-28 Kopaja public minivan S-28, which plies the Kampung Melayu-Ragunan route, near the Saidah tower in Cikopo, Pancoran, at about 10 a.m. on Saturday.

"He just got off the bus when the gang suddenly beat him up and slashed him with machetes," Ahmad said. (ylt)
