Police arrest firecracker traders

INDRAMAYU, West Java: Indramayu Police have arrested seven women for attempting to sell hundreds of millions of rupiah worth of firecrackers.

Indramayu Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Johni Suroto said on Tuesday the women were arrested during a raid on a street in Lohbener subdistrict on Sunday night.

The raid was held ahead of the holy month of Ramadhan, which begins on Oct. 15. It is common for children to set off firecrackers during Ramadhan.

Firecrackers confiscated from the suspects were to be sold in neighboring Majalengka and Cirebon regencies.-- JP
