Police are chasing four men for Rp 100m robbery

JAKARTA (JP): Bogor Police are pursuing four people in connection with the shooting of a man during the armed robbery of Rp 100 million (US$10,000) on Jl. Baru Ciheuleut in Sawah village, East Bogor, on Wednesday afternoon.

East Bogor police chief First. Insp. Budi Setiono identified the victim as Syaheri, 45, the driver of Junaedi, a clove dealer whose money was stolen.

"Syaheri was shot in the right arm and stomach. We have questioned several witnesses and they say the gun used in the robbery was an FN pistol," Budi told reporters on Wednesday.

Budi said that, according to witnesses' testimonies, Junaedi had ordered his two employees, Gani and Adi, to withdraw Rp 100 million from Bank Lippo on Jl. Juanda in Bogor.

Syaheri drove both employees to the bank in his boss' Daihatsu Feroza jeep to withdraw the cash.

From the bank, they were heading for Junaedi's residence, in the Villa Duta complex No. 30, when four men riding two Yamaha RX-King motorcycles chased the Daihatsu Feroza jeep, drew along side and forced it to stop.

Budi said that one man got off a motorcycle and immediately fired two shots in the driver's side window, hitting Syaheri.

"After that, another man took out a sickle, put it on the neck of Gani and snatched the package containing the money from Gani's hands. The robbers then fled the scene," Budi said.

Meanwhile, other sources insisted that Gani and Adi had withdrawn a total of Rp 400 million from Bank Lippo, but only Rp 100 million was robbed from Gani.

In an unrelated development, Bogor Police Chief Adj. Comr. Bambang Wasgito told reporters that police arrested two of three thieves caught red-handed stealing neon lights from a billboard sign in the Gunung Putri area early on Wednesday morning.

Bambang identified the men as Sahwil bin Kodirin, 24, and Andi, 26. (21)
