PMI calls for aid for Iran
JAKARTA: The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) headquarters has called on people to help Iranian families left homeless by the earthquake that killed 2,400 people last Saturday.
In a statement from the public relations head of the organization Marlina Suriawan, PMI said all 306 branches are ready to handle donations for the Iranian families.
"Donors could also go to the PMI headquarters on Jl. Gatot Subroto Kav. 96, South Jakarta, or transfer the money to the PMI bank account No. 087.0.12522.1.1.1. at the Bank Dagang Negara (BDN) office at Wisma Baja," the release said.
PMI expressed condolences to the government of Iran over the quake which measured 7.1 on the Richter scale.
The quake destroyed 80 villages in Khorasan province, near the border with Afghanistan.
The Indonesian Red Cross handed over US$2,000 in donations to victims of a quake which devastated Iran in February, the release said. (sur)
