PKS appeals to Supreme Court
BANDUNG: The Depok General Elections Commission (KPUD) has filed an appeal with the Supreme Court to overturn a controversial lower court verdict that canceled election results and the win in the mayoral elections of Nur Mahmudi of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).
The West Java High Court declared Golkar Party candidate Badrul Kamal the winner earlier this month, citing evidence that 62,770 of Badrul's supporters did not receive voting cards.
The Depok KPUD had certified Nur Mahmudi's victory in the June election with a margin of 25,829 votes over Badrul.
The lawyer for the Depok KPUD, Absar Kartadibrata, said the high court had mistakenly assumed that all Badrul supporters who could not cast ballots would have chosen Badrul.
"The high court decided without verification," Absar said. -- JP
