PKB candidate protested

YOGYAKARTA: The Bantul branch of the National Awakening Party (PKB) filed a protest with the party's Yogyakarta chapter on Saturday after its candidate was overlooked in the appointment to the legislature despite winning the most seats for the party.

Head of the PKB's office in Bantul, Mudjab Mahali, decried the decision to select a Kulonprogo candidate to represent the party in the House of Representatives despite the fact that Bantul's candidate received more votes in the June 7 general election.

Mudjab claimed that Bantul representative Purdi E. Chandra should have been chosen because he won 87,364 votes, while Ali As'ad in Kulonprogo only obtained 42,000 votes.

"It's the Bantul candidate who should be appointed to represent Yogyakarta," he said, adding that their objection was in compliance with existing regulations. (swa/emf)
