Pirated VCD supplier arrested
JAKARTA (JP): City police detectives confiscated 60,910 pirated VCDs, some 10,000 of which were pornographic films, from three kiosks in the popular Glodok shopping center in West Jakarta.
The chief of the Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Division, Sr. Supt. Harry Montolalu, said during a media conference on Friday the owner of two of the kiosks, identified as Januar Djunaedi, was arrested in the raid on Oct. 18.
The owner of the other kiosk, Antoni Darwin Sianipar, is still at large as he was not present when the police raided his business on Oct. 13.
Harry said the two men supplied illegal VCDs to street vendors in Glodok.
During the media conference, the police put on display the confiscated VCDs.
Harry quoted Januar as saying he purchased the illegal VCDs from a number of people he could not identify.
"Januar claimed he sold from 100 to 150 VCDs every day," Harry said, adding that the suspect purchased the VCDs for Rp 3,250 each and resold them for between Rp 4,000 and Rp 6,000.
Glodok is know to be a center for the sale of pirated VCDs in the capital, with a daily turnover of billions of rupiah. (jaw)
