PIB to hold national convention

JAKARTA: The New Indonesian Party (PIB) plans to hold a series of seminars followed by its first national convention between March 20 and 23 at the Hotel Indonesia, Jakarta.

Sjahrir, the party's leader and presidential candidate will open the three-day seminar on Thursday, discussing regional autonomy and the party's agenda in facing the next general election.

On the closing day on Sunday, PIB will hold its national convention, where all provincial and regency branches are likely to announce the nomination of its leader Sjahrir as the presidential candidate from PIB for the next general election.

Sjahrir, Indonesia's noted economist, told The Jakarta Post earlier that the event would host some 1,000 party members from 31 provinces and 500 regencies nationwide.--JP
