Physicians demand salary hike

YOGYAKARTA: Some 150 state physicians and dentists demanded a 250 percent hike in salary during a meeting with health minister Achmad Sujudi here on Tuesday.

They told the minister that they would stage street protests if the government failed to meet their demand.

Sujudi said, however, that the government and the House of Representatives had agreed only to double their salaries. It is unclear, however, when the increase will take effect. (swa)
