Photo exhibition on children
JAKARTA (JP): The French Cultural Center is holding a 16-day photo exhibition on children of the lower income bracket at its compound on Jl. Salemba Raya 25, Central Jakarta.
The exhibition, which was opened on Tuesday, features 40 black and white works by two young photographers who are still studying at the Jakarta Arts Institute -- Padri B. Nadeak and Imelda Stefanny.
The photos, which focus on young people of up to 20 years old, were taken in the period between 1997 and 1999, Aji Yahuti R. of the center said in a statement.
The exhibition expresses the two photographers' concern at the fate of most children in the country, and their general lack of basic rights, as well as the neglect, discrimination and exploitation they suffer despite the existence of their legal foundation. (hhr)
