Phony soldier arrested

JAKARTA (JP): City Police have detained for questioning a civilian who was caught wearing an Army uniform at the Kampung Rambutan intercity bus terminal in East Jakarta yesterday.

City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said that Ansusuar Presdi, 30, was detained by local police officers for impersonating an officer. Police said the man appeared suspicious because despite wearing the official uniform, he also wore a pair of sandals.

"What's funny is that he wore sandals instead of Army boots. That's why he was quickly spotted by some police officers at the terminal," Aritonang said.

But police are still not sure of the man's motives for wearing the Army uniform in such a public place.

"We are still questioning him," he said.

According to police, the suspect was not doing anything of harm at the bus station.

Ansusuar was taken to City Police Headquarters' Internal Affairs unit at about 11:30 a.m. yesterday.

"The man failed to show the Army card to officers," said Aritonang. (cst)
