Philips opens phone outlets

JAKARTA (JP): Philips Consumer Communications Indonesia announced on Monday the opening of the first authorized sales and repair centers for its mobile phone products at ITC Roxy Mas, the city's busiest cellular phone market.

Vice president of the Dutch company for the Asia Pacific Alan Sparks said the opening of the two outlets in West Jakarta was evidence of the company's plan to intensify efforts in the cellular business.

"We see a rapid pickup in the Indonesian cellular market. Therefore it is important for us to strengthen our presence in the market and buttress awareness among local customers," he said.

Philips offers three models of mobile phones, Xenium, Genie and Savvy. (cst)
