Philately expo does Indonesia proud

We often read in newspapers everywhere of complaints made by the general public about specific encounters with various government departments. It is not as often that one reads of positive action by these same departments, but we have just had such an encounter here in Bandung that should not go unmentioned.

To commemorate the opening of the magnificent new Pusat Kantor Pos (Central Post Office), Bandung was chosen to host the International Philately Exhibition. This in itself was so well organized that it did credit to our postal service and showed that Indonesia can perform on the international scene in a professional way without embarrassment. I believe that thanks are in order to the organizers of this event.

I was most impressed with the two young people who staffed the display of the history of Bandung in 1946. They were obviously proud of the freedom fighters of that time. They made extra effort to explain to me in detail the involvement of the British army during that time in trying to restore order to a war ravaged country. Although I am British I was not aware of these events, but now thanks to these two proud young Indonesians I am more enlightened and interested to learn more.

Such actions bode well for the future of this country. Not only is Indonesia indah but Indonesia is international.
