PGSI mulls host city for wrestling final
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Wrestling Association (PGSI) is still studying candidate cities to host the ASEAN wrestling championships in July 2001.
"PGSI has three alternative hosts, namely Denpasar, Jakarta or Semarang. We are considering several aspects including efficiency and tourism promotion before making any decision," PGSI's executive director Endro Sumarjo was quoted as saying by Antara on Tuesday.
"Our main priority, however, is still Denpasar, considering the availability of sufficient air connections for participants. Bali is also widely known as a tourist destination."
However, PGSI's Central Java branch has also proposed hosting the event.
Endro also said that Indonesia's wrestlers had been preparing themselves in their respective areas of residence.
"There are no problems with our wrestlers' preparations. They will be able to compete with the wrestlers of other participating countries and will do well," he said.
"In the 1999 Thailand event, PGSI sent second and third row wrestlers as part of their preparations. We expect them to take part in future championships." (nvn)
