Petronas to compete in b'ball tournament
JAKARTA: The Petronas Malaysia basketball team has confirmed that it will participate in a four-way regional women's basketball tournament being hosted by Mahaputri Britama at the Kelapa Gading Sports Mall in North Jakarta, from Aug. 9 to Aug. 11.
Also taking part in the event will be Thailand's top women's team, Bangkok Bank, and the Singaporean national team, which confirmed their participation last month.
Britama manager Dede Rahman said here on Wednesday that local players could benefit from this event by competing against and learning from some of the top players in Southeast Asia.
"We hope that we can continue to hold international events like this every year," Dede said.
The Britama Women's Basketball Invitational will also give Indonesian players the chance to begin assessing their potential opponents ahead of the 2005 Southeast Asian Games. -- JP
