Peterpan causes teenage riot

BEKASI: At least 50 teenage fans fainted at a concert of new pop band Peterpan on Sunday afternoon as hundreds of people crammed into the Bekasi sports hall.

Most of the fans entered the venue before the concert started at about 1 p.m.

However, a group which did not have the Rp 15,000 (US$1.67) tickets later tried to pull down a fence to get in.

Not satisfied, they pelted the audience with plastic bottles and stones, who then retaliated until security guards and the police stepped in.

The concert, which was attended by Deputy Mayor Mochtar Muhammad, ended at about 5 p.m. Police said they had arrested four pickpockets. -- JP
