Peruvian embassy holds contest
JAKARTA (JP): A painting contest, themed "Peru in My
Imagination", is currently being held by the Peruvian Embassy in
Jakarta in collaboration with the Women's International Club and
the Indonesian National Commission of UNESCO.
A Rp 2 million (US$909.09) cash prize and the Lord of Sipan
Golden Medal will be awarded to the winner, along with a round
trip ticket to Peru.
Entries must be submitted to the Peruvian Embassy before Nov.
15, 1995. Paintings submitted are regarded as donations for
subsequent exhibition and sale, with the proceeds going to needy
children.
Peruvian Ambassador Elard Escala said yesterday he was
inspired to organize the competition when he saw the unique
similarity between designs in the pre-Inca culture in Peru and
the North Sumatra Batak's ulos (traditional cloth worn covering
the shoulder). (mds)
