Perumka prepares for exodus

BANDUNG: The Perumka train company has prepared 247 locomotive and 1,006 passenger carriages to carry an average of 178,000 commuters daily during the Idul Fitri holiday at the end of the month.

Perumka's spokesman Helmy Azis told reporters here yesterday that the company would also offer a 10 percent to 15 percent discount for economy class passengers traveling one day before or after Idul Fitri.

Idul Fitri falls on Jan. 30 and Jan. 31.

Those traveling from today until Jan. 20 can receive a 15 percent discount along with those traveling from Feb. 13 to Feb. 20.

Those traveling between Jan. 21 and Jan. 24 and Feb. 9 and Feb. 12 can receive a 10 percent discount.

"There will be no discounts between Jan. 25 and Feb. 8," Helmy said.

"This year, Perumka is expecting a 10 percent increase in passengers from last year's figure of 128,213 per day. We are anticipating more than 141,000 people per day this year at its peak," he said. "But I'm sure we have the capacity to take more than that." (43)
