Pertamina plans to take out trash

JAKARTA: State oil and gas firm PT Pertamina has signed a contract with waste treatment company PT Prasadha Pamunah Limbah Industry (PPLi) in Cileungsi, West Java to treat some 16,000 tons of hazardous waste produced by Pertamina's Balongan Processing unit.

In a press release on Thursday, Pertamina said that as part of the contract, it had sent 300 tons of hazardous waste to PPLi for treatment last week. A second shipment of hazardous waste is scheduled for August.

Pertamina has had numerous problems managing its waste at Balongan after it decided to drop a contract with PPLi following probe into an alleged Pertamina collusion scam in late 1990s.

Pertamina added that it was also working with other companies to dispose of its hazardous waste, including PT Kramapadma, Elmindo Bandung concrete factory, CV Dwi in Bandung, and a roof materials manufacturer in Siliwangi. -- JP
