Pertamina finds mixed fuel store

JAKARTA: A team from state oil and gas company Pertamina found on Wednesday at least 25,000 liters of mixed fuel stored at a building in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.

"The fuel is a mixture of 40 percent kerosene and 60 percent diesel fuel," team member Awi Adil was quoted as saying by Antara.

The team said the fuel would have been sold for less than the price of diesel fuel.

"This illegal business started in October last year ... this building was rented," Awi said.

Pertamina frequently raid sites suspected fuel hoarders, a practice that has caused fuel scarcities across the capital.

The team interrogated on Wednesday a security guard at the building, who said the site had been rented by two people he identified as Sy and M.

The team handed over the evidence to the Kramat Jati Police, who sealed off the building.

Residents who came out to watch the raid complained about the illegal business, which they said had polluted their groundwater.-- JP
