Perhapi, AusIMM sign deal

JAKARTA (JP): The Association of Indonesian Mining Professionals (Perhapi) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Australian Institute of Mining and Mineralogists (AusIMM) to certify Indonesian mining experts.

Association chairman Herman Afif Kusumo said on Friday in Canberra, Australia, that the cooperation aimed to improve the professionalism of the country's mining experts.

Herman said AusIMM was the right partner for Perhapi to carry out the program, given the success of Australia in developing mining industries without harming the environment.

"We must admit Indonesia has lagged behind in developing an environmentally friendly mining industry," Herman told Antara.

During the visit to Australia, Perhapi executives traveled to various towns to observe mining activities and study the listing of mining companies. (jsk)
