Perbanas to hold banking expo

JAKARTA: The Federation of Private Domestic Banks (Perbanas) will hold the 2005 Asia Pacific Conference and Expo on Banking Technology (Apconex) here from May 18 to May 20.

"The event is expected to help banks, information technology (IT) firms and other financial institutions deal with technology in the banking industry," the Apconex steering committee chairman Jos Luhukay said in a statement.

"Nowadays, bank customers use advanced technology to make transactions, be they ATM, Internet or cellular phones."

About 600 senior executives of national and international banks as well as those from IT companies and financial institutions are expected to join the event.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is slated to open the Apconex. Keynote speakers include Coordinating Minister for the Economy Aburizal Bakrie, Minister of Finance Yusuf Anwar and Bank Indonesia Senior Deputy Governor Miranda S. Goeltom. -- JP
