Penelope in Tom Cruise's eyes

LONDON: At the British premiere of the movie Vanilla Sky, stars Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz spent an hour talking with many of the 2,000 assembled fans - and using their cellphones.

"I wanted to spend time out here with people who had waited so long. We were just having fun, calling up people's friends and family and leaving messages on their answerphones. It was great," said 39-year-old Cruise.

Cruz, 27, braved the chill in just a black polo neck and floor-skimming A-line crimson satin skirt, with her hair scraped back in an elegant chignon.

Speaking about co-star Cruz, Cruise said their relationship didn't start on the set, when he was still married to Nicole Kidman.

"Penelope is an enormous talent and I have admired her from her other films," he said. "But in terms of our personal life, nothing happened on set."

"Now is a great time in my life and I'm very satisfied with the way things are right now," he added. --AP
