JAKARTA (JP): The Penabur Christian Educational Foundation is crowning a series of events to mark its 50th anniversary with theatrical performances in Jakarta and Bandung.

The organizers said in a statement on Friday that some 500 students from the foundation, popularly known as BPK Penabur, will take part in the plays at the Jakarta Convention Center this Sunday (Aug. 20) and Sabuga Convention Center in Bandung's Institute of Technology the following week.

Founded in the West Java capital of Bandung on July 19, 1950, by the Indonesian Protestant Church (GKI) of the West Java Synod, BPK Penabur currently manages 117 schools, from kindergartens to senior high schools, with around 35,000 students in Jakarta and 15 other cities in West Java and Lampung.

For its silver jubilee, the foundation has held several school and social activities, including an antidrug campaign for people living near its schools, a discussion on religious education and a seminar on management.

"During the shows, a number of the students' works will also be on display," the statement said. (bsr)
